Hayley and Heaven

This is a story about a girl named Hayley. Hayley is four-years-old and she lives with her mom and dad and her four brothers and sisters. Hayley is the youngest.

Hayley’s favorite color is pink, and her favorite thing to do is play with her kitties. Her favorite pop it Mt. Dew and her favorite holiday is Christmas.

Hayley loves Christmas. For two reasons, one is that she gets presents. Hayley loves presents. The other reason is a very special reason. That is that Christmas is when we celebrate Jesus birthday. Jesus is the Son of God.

One very special Christmas day, Hayley and her family were sitting down for dinner. Hayley had a question.

“Mom,” she asked, “Why did God send Jesus to earth?”

“Well,” Mom said, “Jesus came to earth to die for our sins.”

“Why did He have to die, Mom,” Hayley’s brother Corey asked.

“Jesus died so that we could be in heaven when we die.”

“I don’t understand, Mom,” Hayley said, “Why did Jesus have to die so we could go to heaven? Why can’t we go to heaven right now?”

“We can’t get in to heaven on our own,” Mom said, “because of our sins.”

“ What are sins?” Hayley’s sister Raina asked.

“Sins are all the bad things we do. Lying, calling someone a name, disobeying your parents, stealing. These sins separate us from God, so we can’t get into heaven.”

“Well how do we get to heaven mom?” Hayley wanted to know.

“Since Jesus came to earth, and died on the cross, He paid for all of our sins. He made is so we don’t have to go to hell when we die. We can go to heaven.” Mom told them. “But we have to ask Jesus to come into our hearts and forgive us. Then we can go to heaven when we die.”

“Mom, I want to go to heaven.” Hayley said.

So at dinner on Christmas night Hayley bowed her head and prayed, “Dear Jesus, please come into my heart, and forgive my sins. Amen.”

Hayley became a Christian, a child of God. She was going to heaven when she died. That night all the angels in heaven had a huge party for Hayley, because she asked Jesus into her heart.

But Hayley’s story doesn’t end there. About four months later Hayley got really sick and she died. Her family and friends cried a lot. They still miss her. But because Hayley asked Jesus into her heart they know that she is in heaven with Him right now. Forever.

If Hayley were here today, she would want to make sure all of you had Jesus in your hearts too. She would want you to be in heaven with her. Hayley’s family knows that they will see her again in heaven. Will you be there too?
