As told by Mommy
On October 4th 1994, Hayley was born to her daddy, big sister, big brother and I after 9 years of waiting. She was my smallest, yet roundest baby. She also had NO hair what so ever on that round head. The other two had tons of hair. Hayley was always a healthy baby and little girl. The only time she ever had to go to the doctor was because she was hurt. She was a rambunctious little girl. When she was about 9 months old I bought her a Little Tykes doll house. She didn’t really play with it but it sure made a nice climbing toy. Even as she got older, dolls were really not her thing, however she had a gorilla that was her baby. She would put a baby sleeper on that gorilla and carry it around feeding it milky (nursing). She also loved a stuffed moose. No dolls though. Hayley was precocious. She would climb on anything. We had a pile of lumber for a deck we were building on the driveway she was all over that. We have a photo of her with a bruise on her cheek from when she fell off it. This child always had a bruise or two on her. She loved to ride her brothers skate board. She was smart though and always wore a helmet...her brothers and backwards. When she was two she pulled the fire alarm in the library. We were at a LLL meeting. I saw her heading for the table to climb up it and before I could get her she pulled it. The whole library had to be evacuated in the rain no less. The fireman wanted to speak to the little scamp who pulled the alarm. Hayley loved to go for walks, rides in her stroller, go to the park and play with her big brother and sister. Hayley was a little girl who didn’t like to be away from Mommy much. She would sleep with her Daddy and I or her big sister. One day Hayley came bounding into my bedroom and when asked "where did you come from" she said "from Jesus to drink Mommies milky" Hayley’s favorite color was "ornch"(orange) . Hayley was three when we adopted her older brother and sister. During the process Hayley was so excited. She helped to get everything ready for the "new kids" We would be in the store and she would point out things that the new kids would need. Her new sister needed a shirt....she needed one too. Her new brother needed a car....she needed one too. If she got a sticker from someone she would ask for one for her new brother and sister also. We had a big birthday party for Hayley when she turned three. We invited lots of our family friends. Hayley got to have her "kid" party. Hayley got a new bike for Christmas the year she turned four. She spent all winter riding that bike around my kitchen table. Hayley had several nicknames, Hayleybean, HayleyRoserini,HaylBop, beanie, noodle, Beanhead, Sparkplug are just a few. She also had an imaginary friend named Dutty. On Saturday May 1st 1999 my dh, and the two older kids were at church getting ready to put on the Drama "Heavens Gates Hells Flames". Dan was playing the part of Satan in the drama, Lindsay was a demon. Dan had said that he felt that something big was going to happen in our family because of this drama. He had a strange feeling but couldn’t really put his finger on it. The three littler ones and I were at home that day. Hayley and Raina wore matching outfits. We did some yard work, went to the park rode bikes and played with the neighbor boy. Dan and the kids came home we had steak and corn on the cob for dinner. Corn on the cob was Hayley’s favorite food. She just loved it. This was our first of the season. She ate 2 whole pieces. Dan and I knew that she would probably have a bit of a tummy ache that evening. At ten o’clock Hayley complained of a tummy ache. Dan and i thought yep...its the corn. I sent her to the potty thinking she needed to poo. She crawled in bed with me for awhile. Dh was down on the computer. About midnight she started throwing up. We thought now she had the flu. It had been several months maybe a year since she had had the flu. We cared for her as if she had the flu. Dh and I took shifts. I stayed up with her the first half the night Dh took the second half. She was throwing up and in general very restless. Rolling around on the floor. I had her in the living room with the blanket from my sofa. She would moan and groan a bit and then doze awhile and wake and do the same. I remember that at one time she was dreaming about being in the sandbox and scolding her older brother and sister about a digger thing. She also talked to Dutty (her imaginary friend a lot). We now believe that Dutty was her Guardian angel. She told her Daddy that she wouldn’t need her pacifier anymore. About 7:30 Sunday morning Dan came and got me. She was very thirsty but hadn’t been able to keep any water down. We tried to give her a sip and up it came again. By this time she was very weak and couldn’t sit up well. About 9 am we decided to go to the ER. We knew that she was dehydrated. We were getting ready to go when Hayley had a seizure and stopped breathing in my arms. Dan was in the shower. Raina had come down and heard me yelling for Dan that she’s not breathing. We called the ambulance and they came. We believe that Hayley went from my arms straight to our Fathers arms. One day she was a happy healthy little girl and the next she was gone. Less than 12 hours.
Hayley didn’t have the stomach flu it was a twisted bowel. Her intestines twisted upon themselves two and a half times. Hayley’s bowel died. We need our bowel in the same way we need our heart or lungs. We cannot live without them.
We asked what if we had gone to the ER earlier. They said that they would have sent us home because she presented like the flu. They also said that even if they had known what it was they couldn’t have done anything anyway. I am told that with a twisted bowel they have to go in within ten minutes of the twist to fix it. Hayley was a little girl who didn’t do well with people she didn’t know. If we had gone in she would have been poked, prodded and made to lay confined on a bed hooked up to all kinds of things. She would have been terrified. If my daughter was gonna die anyway I am thankful that she was at home where she was with people she loved and who she knew loved her. She went from my arms to Jesus arms. Because of Hayley’s death the drama that my dh and kids were in was postponed for a month. We know that Satan attacked our family. We also know that because of Hayley’s death when the drama did go on several people who knew us and of Hayley came to see it. Many people came to Christ that evening. Many others came back to Christ as a direct result to Hayley’s Death A little girl was led to Christ by her older brother after talking about Hayley and learning that she would see her friend in Heaven one day. My husbands father, Hayley’s Grandpa accepted Christ at Hayley’s funeral. My daughter was 4 years old. Her life and death have touched so many people. I don’t know what I prayed for in the days preceding Hayley’s Death but I would not be surprised if it was something to the effect of use us Lord to make a difference. I don’t believe that God caused Hayley’s death. He allowed it. Could he have stopped her from dying? I believe He could have but for reasons only He knows He chose not to. Was she here because someone needed Christ?.... Could be. |
